Fire Recovery
In June 2024, we received a phone call from a neighbor over the mountain that said there was a fire headed our way. We began packing up and contacting volunteers to help in case we needed to evacuate. A few hours later, CalFire showed up in our driveway, and began to tell us we would need to get ready to leave. We packed everything up and gathered horses in one area, so that if we needed to leave, we could grab everyone quickly. Well, the fire got closer, but thankfully a CalFire engine was sationed in our driveway and brought in a couple of hand crews. They got the fire contained around us and began watch for spot fires. We ended up having no power for about a week and staying on fire watch for a few days. Friends brought feed, water, pumps, generators, trailers and more to keep us and the animals safe and fed. We ended up losing about 50 acres of pasture and all the fencing around those pastures. Those pastures were vital to supplementing feed to keep our hay costs down. Thanks to many amazing donors, we raised over $12,000 towards hay/feed and repairing fence.
